Cycling
the real Tuscany Tour
A
7 days sightseeing tour by bike through the beautiful
and evocative contryside of Tuscany. You will discover
the artistic and naturalistic heritage by visiting
fascinating, hamlets, abbeys, monasterys, castles
and vineyards placed in a very striking view. This
tour includes a seven nights accomodation in 7 different
excellent hotels (double room with private bath),
breakfast, bike rental (including front bag, helmet,
water bottle, padlock, tool kit, insurance), clearly
marked road maps and itineraries, baggage transfer
service every day, emergency road assistance (you
will be provided with a special line to call for emergency
repairs, transfer from Chiusi-Chianciano train station
(a major stop on all the Roma-Florence line) to hotel
in which you will spend the first night, possibility
of optional transfer from Florence airport or station
(reservation required).

We'll
meet you at the train station in Chiusi-Chianciano
(a major stop on all the Rome-Florence lines) and
take you to a small village called "Locanda dell'Amorosa"
to introduce you inside a small paradise, preserved
through the centuries, the Middle Age and the Renaissance,
from the times of the ancient Etruscans.

Amorosa-Petroio-Castelmuzio-S.Anna
in Camprena-Pienza
Your tour starts
from "Locanda dell'Amorosa" in direction Pienza but
before you visit Petroio, Castelmuzio and S.Anna in
Camprena, the convent where parts of The English Patient
were filmed. Pienza displays a remarkable unity of
style, especially in its main square, and a perfect
example of Renaissance town planning as requested
by Pope Pius II, a scholarly man who wanted to build
the ideal town.

day
Pienza-San
Quirico d'Orcia-Bagno Vignoni-Montalcino
From Pienza you
start in direction of Montalcino before visit San
Quirico and Bagno Vignoni. San Quirico d'Orcia gained
importance because it straddle Via Francigena, which
passed through the Orcia Valley linking Rome and the
north of Italy. Bagno Vignoni popular for its spring
water which was reputed for its effectivennes in the
treatment of arthritis and reumatism as far back as
Romans times. The houses cluster round an old swimming
pool flanked, on one side, by St. Catherine's Portico,
a reminder that the saint is said to have come here
at the end of her life. The famed wine town of Montalcino
is your destination.

Montalcino-Abbey
Monte Oliveto-Asciano

Ride from Montalcino to Asciano, the centre an nice
area called "Crete Senesi". Montalcino is know throughout
Italy for its excellent red wine, Brunello, a very
high-quality vintage from a restricted wine-growing
area. The huge pink brick buildings of this famous
abbeynestle among the cypress trees in a landscape
of eroded hills. Montalcino's medieval fortress now
houses the Enoteca where you can taste (and buy) lots
of fine regional wines. Monte Oliveto is the mother-house
of the Olivetians, a congregation of Benedectine monks
founded in 1313 by Blessed Bernardo Tolomei of Siena.

Asciano-Castelnuovo
Berardenga-Brolio-Meleto

Ride from Asciano to Chianti area's. You'll travel
through two fascinating areas called "Le Crete" and
"Chianti". In this day you'll visit wine cellars where
you can taste (and buy) lots a fine Chianti wine,
vineyards, Chianti castle's and tonight you'll sleep
in one of this!!

day
Meleto-Radda
in Chianti-Castellina in Chianti-Monteriggioni
Ride from Siena to Monteriggioni. Today you'll visit the
towns of the "Old league of Chianti" and Monteriggioni.
This small town stands peacefully on top of one of
the gracefull hills north of Siena. It owes its picturesque
beauty to the clea-cut outline of its enclosing wall
and 14 square towers. The fortress was formerly a
Ghibelline outpost, built by the sienese in the early
13th C., and was described by Dante in his Divine
Comedy.

Sixth
day
Monteriggioni-Colle
val d'Elsa-San Gimignano

Ride from Monteriggioni to San Gimignano. San Gimignano
is surrounded by gently-rolling country side dotted
with vines and olive tree. Its 14 grey stone towers
set on a hiltop are enclosed within an outer wall
including five gates. It has all the charm of a small
medieval town, built mainly of brick, and has been
amazingly well preserved.

San
Gimignano-Siena

Ride from San Gimignano to Siena, the city of "Palio".
The "Palio" is the banner awarded as the prize on
a horse race. Siena is a mystic, gentle city of art
and culture with a passionate and generousus soul,
welcoming visitors with its motto which is inscribed
above the Camollia Gate- "Cor magis tibi Sena pandit"
(Siena opens its heart even wider to you). It is a
gothic city.
